Okay, this is Leigh's 3rd chelation that's just started.
(2013) 2 years ago-
We tried 100mg of DMSA and 200mg of DMSA alternatively for about 4 months.
It wasn't a good experience. Leigh was moody to the point she would hit herself or bang herself to the wall. It was very very painful 4 months.
After we finished chelation and lost lots of mercury and lead, she had more words coming and started to improve to the point she could put couple of sentences together. Yay but I still don't know if all that was worth it because it was really harsh. (but I am glad we did it)
(2014) 1 year ago-
We chelated with RNA metal III because Leigh still had lots of bad metal and 8 times the normal count for Rubella. RNA metal III takes Rubella away too. This went on for 6 months.
This was worse than DMSA. Leigh screamed and was moody the whole time... her sensitivity for sound worsened. Not only was cough and sneezes bothering her, anything children said in unison bothered her so singing sound/reading sound from others bothered and she broke in tears every single day at school. Sound of cars, and motorbikes also made her grimace.
After 6 months of chelation and a month of rest, her life long battle with sound almost ceased.
Just like that. Since last year November the chelation did wonders for her and she no longer needs to wear thick and huge ear phones (those the construction workers use) at school. She has not shed a tear since then when someone sneezed or coughed.
She is not completely cured of this sound thing. There is still about 10% of irritation left when she hears it but she can handle it especially if she is at school since she wants to behave.
You have no idea how much our quality of life has improved because sound is not a huge issue anymore when we go out. We now can go to so many places! :)
She has also shown more eye contacts and gotten more responsive to people and other's feelings trying to relate, trying to make conversation. Not perfect in speech but it's a great step forward.
For Leigh, RNA was very harsh on her compared to DMSA, much much more expensive but when she bounced back at the end of the chelation, she bounced back big.
This year (2015) May 1st -
We start back with DMSA from tonight.
Dosage works like this, 25mg of DMSA per kg.
PLAN-A
She is 24kg so she will be taking 2 pills of 250mg per day for 3 days and rest 11 days. She can do this cycle 6 times and go into a long long rest for her to bounce back and show us how she improves (or not).
PLAN-B
OR She can take 250mg of DMSA daily for 2 months.
The doctor says I can choose either way.
The choice is mine. Mine! argh.
I have never given Leigh 500mg of DMSA before, nothing so strong. She was very distressed with 100mg-200mg 2years ago and I don't know how she would be with 500mg... sigh. (I can only make myself feel better by thinking 2 years ago, she was a walking mercury filled girl and she was lighter so the detoxing had to be hard on her... now she is heavier, stronger and not as toxic as so it could be easier this time...)
I have time till tonight to decide which way to go and I still haven't decided how I will do this.
Right now, as I type this, I am leaning towards Plan A.
Chelation itself has been painful for Leigh and the whole family (because we have to go through this together with her tears and wails) but at the same time it takes away a lot of good minerals too so she has to be supplemented heavily at the same time.
Her liver and kidney has to be monitored constantly to make sure she has not damaged them from chelating. 2 years ago her chelation did put some burden on her kidney and we had to replenish the kidney back with the right supplements to get it back to its normal self.
I hope this will go smoothly and also give us some good results like lots of mercury and lead out-flow and some good speech in the end :) Yup, it will have to be our yearly ritual.
In case anyone is interested, we are also on Dr.Amy Yasko's protocol for supplements.
Will write on that next time.
